Coraline Jones moves into a new massive home that is quite dull really with her loving family - who have lots of work to do so don`t have much time for her and means she quite often looks after herself in quite a large house. She meets a variety of strange characters from a strange cat to her very weird neighbour Mr Bobbinski. She eventually finds a little passage which leads to another version of her house in the Other World. Her new parents are nearly identical to her other parents but both have buttons in their eyes and she gets everything she wants like new clothes, parents to play games with her, nicer food e.t.c Eventually they become very possessive of her and want her to stay in the Other World and have buttons sewn in her eyes. Things then get a bit worse and the film goes quite dark for a children`s animation - especially in 3D!
I think that parents should definitely consider whether there child would like this movie as some parts could be quite scary for them and the film is also quite dark! One thing I liked was the 3D glasses which surprisingly did actually work and made the characters look closer to you - I wonder if all TV, films and games will be like that in the future as it was quite impressive!
I did actually quite enjoy the film even though it is aimed at children and found it different to other children`s animation which was good as normally they are all very happy and boring! The story also has a bit of a moral that you should be grateful for what you have and not to be greedy!
The film looked really impressive in 3D and I think it is probably more enjoyable watching it that way so if you are going to get it on DVD I would recommend getting the 3D glasses version.
Overall I quite enjoyed Coraline but think it could scare some young children as it is quite dark compared to other animations.
