The Great Escape Review

Watching the Great Escape on Sky Anytime last night I thought I had to review it. This movie is based on a book by Paul Brickhill who actually was in the camp in March 1944! The film is therefore based on true events but there are some inaccuracies so you should not believe everything that happens in the film! The film was made in 1963 but is still on every Christmas!

The Great Escape is set in World War 2 and begins with the P.O.W at a new camp which is meant to be very high security. The idea is to have "all the rotten eggs in one basket" so they can all be kept inside this one impossible to escape camp!

You see the prisoners of war in the camp and follow their escape plan. They want to be as much nuisance to the Germans as possible wasting their time, money and men! There plan is to get over 250 men out of the camp out of tunnels. You get to see how they manage to dig the tunnels, trick guards, get various things and forge documents! It really is interesting to watch. You also find out how many escaped from the camp and how many of them really escaped!

There are many stars in this film including:

Steve McQueen
James Garner
Richard Attenborough
James Coburn
Charles Bronson
Donald Pleasence
David McCallum
Gordon Jackson

The acting is really good and Steve McQueen probably does the best job but the others also act well.

The film is a long one - heading towards three hours! However it was very enjoyable and I would recommend it to everyone!

I also found the film a little funny in parts and you do think if it was made now it would be a little shorter and I am sure there would be a bit more blood and gore! Also just in case you are wondering it is in colour!

Overall this is a brilliant film and is really interesting to watch. It is exciting, easy to relate to and also interesting and has some great acting! I also like the fact it is based on a true story and just generally really liked this film!
