UP Review

Up is the latest Pixar film and is rated very highly at the moment and is the 42nd best film at the moment according to Imdb. I watched this film at the cinema two days ago in 3D and really enjoyed it!

* * * The Plot * * *

Carl Fredrickson idolises the explorer Charles Muntz. He meets a young girl called Ellie who also admires Muntz and both of them have a great sense of adventure and marry! They both want to go to Paradise Falls in South America but they never get to visit or live there. There is a section of the film showing their life together in a few minutes which was very moving and quite sad to watch. It shows many financial problems stopping them going to Paradise Falls, the life they had with each other and them growing up and Ellie passing a way in a few minutes! 




Carl is left alone in his house where he first met Ellie. Outside his house there are builders changing the area and basically making a right nuisance of themselves! He meets Russell the Wilderness Explorer who wants to get his "Assisting the Elderly" badge and Carl reluctantly listens.

Carl then is forced to move into a retirement home after an incident with one of the builders so decides to follow his and Ellie`s dream to go to South America. He lifts off with thousands of balloons attached to his house and goes up and up and heads towards South America. He does not know however that Russell has accidentally hitched a ride. This leads to a funny scene where someone is knocking in the door while he is high in the air and you do wonder who it could be! The movie continues with an old house flying in the air by thousands of balloons, a young Wilderness Explorer and an old man for a very interesting and unexpected adventure! Especially for Carl who thought he was travelling on his own!

* * * Opinion * * *
I think the plot is absolutely brilliant and is different from anything else that I have seen. I think it is very cleverly written with many funny moments and includes a variety of strange animals. The section which shows most of Carl`s life is very sad as I have said and very clever too. The film is also very funny in parts and had many sections for the audience to laugh out loud.

The characters all have good roles where Carl captures an old, grump, lonely man brilliantly and you can really sympathize with him. Russell also plays the role of an annoying little child but you still like him and provides many laughs as well.

The characters all look great as well and the computer effects and graphics look brilliant! The scenery is really pretty in areas like Paradise Falls and very impressive. The 3D is used to good effect as well and helps the already excellent computer effects and animation.

The voice actors also are brilliant and all play their roles and characters well. With Russell sounding like a typical child and you can tell Carl is a grumpy, sad, lonely old man before he sets off on his adventure and is annoyed at first at having to have Russell with him.

* * * Summary * * *
Overall Up is a brilliant film and one I think everyone should see! The plot is excellent, the animation and special effects are brilliant, the characters are great, there are many laughs and it is overall an excellent film. One sections that is particularly good as I have mentioned a few times is about Carl and Ellie and their life and is quite sad. The film however is suitable for all and can`t see anything that anyone would find scary, violent or has bad language. I would recommend UP to one and all and think you would blow up if you missed it!
